Permanent Safer Streets Team
We will crack down on anti-social behaviour with a new, permanent Safer Streets Team.
Although Merton is one of the safest boroughs in London, residents don’t always feel safe, especially after dark.
We’ve done lots to help tackle crime and the perception of it, including expanding our 24-hour CCTV network and trialling Safer Streets Patrols. These see council officers team up with police to walk local beats and tackle street drinking and drug use, enforce the law and issue fines.
Our permanent Safer Streets Team will be on the beat, patrolling every neighbourhood, every week, because we know a visible police and community safety presence – patrolling day and night, and on weekends – helps prevent crime and is reassuring for residents.
These new patrols will begin in summer 2025.
