Adults of all ages can need extra support in day-to-day life for various and often complex reasons.
Adult social care is for:
- adults with physical or learning disabilities
- adults with physical or mental illnesses
- older people who require extra support
Types of support
- Help with personal care, such as eating, washing, or getting dressed
- Help with domestic tasks, such as cleaning or going to the shops
How support is provided
- Formal care services, such as care homes or a carer helping in the home. These services are paid for, usually by the local council or through private funds
- Informal care - family members, neighbours, or friends may provide unpaid care
