Ten minute grace period

Drivers are allowed a 10-minute grace period at all pay-and-display and shared use parking bays. This means that if you park for longer than allowed in such a bay, you will not receive a penalty charge notice unless you have overstayed for more than 10 minutes.

How to pay by cash at a machine

When you pay by cash at a ticket machine for on-street pay and display parking, you will receive time equivalent to the value of every coin inserted into the machine up to the maximum payment permitted, subject to a minimum charge for 20 minutes' parking. The time will be calculated according to the hourly rate which applies at the location. The minimum coin accepted at all machines is 5p.

Please note that at certain locations the first 20 minutes of parking is free. If you only require 20 minutes at these locations then press the green button without inserting any payment.

Bank holidays

On Boxing Day, New Year's Day and bank holidays parking is free in all zones, except zones W3 and W4 where charges apply between 2pm and 6pm. On Christmas Day and Good Friday parking is free in all zones.
