Teaching and learning advisors offer support for middle and senior leaders, class teachers and teaching assistants working in primary school settings. They offer expert advice and guidance in English, mathematics, equalities, assessment, primary curriculum and approaches to teaching and learning. Within this service we offer training delivered by nationally recognised accredited trainers in whole class and intervention programmes such as Numicon, Merton Talking Maths Programme and Talking Partners@Primary.

The type of activity offered includes:

  • developing subject knowledge of staff
  • one-to-one sessions to strengthen strategic subject leadership
  • team teaching and modelling quality first teaching
  • bespoke training for teachers and teaching assistants
  • support for curriculum development and planning
  • training on classroom assessment strategies
  • carrying out a book scrutiny
  • subject-specific Ofsted preparation
  • whole school monitoring of an identified issue such as challenge
  • support in the assessment and monitoring of pupils progress
  • evaluation of intervention packages

Quality of service and evaluation

Aspects of this service are regulated and evaluated by external providers, including the NCETM CPD quality assurance mark, Numicon accreditation and Talking Partner’s accreditation. Other aspects are evaluated on a regular basis and feedback is always welcome.
