The New Arrivals Team provides advice on meeting the educational needs of Refugee, asylum seeker and newly arrived families. We can deliver training to develop an understanding of the issues surrounding asylum seekers, refugees and migrants and advise on strategies and resources which can be employed to support them.
We also offer a Bilingual Language Assistant service covering a range of languages.
Our bilingual assistants can be employed on an hourly basis to support bilingual pupils and families and can be booked as a single session or a series of ongoing support .We have a simple and flexible booking procedure. All assistants are DBS checked and trained by our team.
Bilingual Assistants can:
- Interpret at parents’ meetings to enable both schools and parents to exchange information and voice concerns.
- Support pupils in class enabling them to access the curriculum
- Carry out first language assessments
In addition we are able to co-ordinate projects supporting bilingual families in schools and children’s centres.
Quality of service and evaluation
We quality assure our service via feedback from schools. “Your bilingual assistant was absolutely brilliant this morning in the meeting which she came to translate for. She formed an immediate bond with the parent and we would like to book her for the follow up meeting. We were very impressed.”
