Event Description

This June, join us as we celebrate 80 wonderful years of Morden Hall Park being open to the public and National Picnic Week – and what better way to mark the occasion than a Gilliat Hatfeild inspired picnic!

Gilliat Hatfeild, who gifted Morden Hall Park to the National Trust, was a strong advocate for giving children access to nature, hosting annual children parties and inviting local schools to the grounds right up until his death in 1941. His parties were known for being full of play, music, and backdropped by outstanding natural beauty.

The picnic will feature performances from the Wandle Concert Band, Merton Youth Jazz Orchestra, and Merton Youth Concert Band – a perfect soundtrack for frolicking amidst the roses. There will be garden games a plenty, meditative art therapy sessions led by Sarah Jane De Neumann (@sarahjane846), and other activities throughout the day.

So, grab your blankets and baskets and join us for a Picnic in the Park!

*Please note, food and drink will not be provided but the Potting Shed & Stable Yard Cafés will be open. We politely ask larger groups to picnic outside of the Rose Garden.
