Update - 27 November 2014

Following the completion of highway improvements in your area, we are now carrying out a post scheme review and are interested in your feedback. The overall objectives of the scheme were to improve the quality of life for local residents by reducing motor vehicle dominance, provide a safer, more vibrant environment for all road users and increase driver awareness that they are entering a residential area and the need to alter driver behaviour.

The deadline for completing the online questionnaire was 19 December 2014.

 

Update - 16 January 2014

Following the recent consultation in December 2013, the Council would like to inform you of its decision to proceed with the statutory consultation and to seek your views for certain alterations to parking restrictions and removal of the No-Entry and width restriction (Milner Road)

We are planning to introduce measures in your road to form part of the on-going highway improvements in the South Wimbledon area. As part of this initiative we will be introducing measures to include:

  • Entry treatments (the road is raised with ramps to the same level as the footway) in Abbey Road, Brisbane Road, Rutlish Road and Kirkley Road
  • Banding features (2 metres wide constructed from cobbled granite installed across the carriageway) at junctions in Abbey Road, Milner Road, and Shelton Road
  • Removal of the gate in Milner Road to include collapsible bollards with trees instead
  • Removal of the No-Entry into Milner Road from Brisbane Road and its width restriction

These measures should provide better awareness to passing traffic and a safer, more vibrant environment for all roads users including the residents.

 

What happens next

It is planned to commence the construction work in February, with completion by March 2014. You will receive a letter in the New year with details of the precise dates, times and temporary traffic arrangements. If you have any comments, please let us know by Friday 20 December 2013, which will be considered in the final design.
To accompany these measures, certain alterations to parking restrictions will require a statutory consultation, which will be carried out in due course. This will involve Notice of the Council's intentions published in the local newspaper and posted on lamp columns in the vicinity along with letters to residents and businesses in the vicinity.
