We have been successful in its bid to Transport for London (TfL) to fund accessibility improvements across the Borough. To improve pedestrian safety and access to Malmesbury Primary School and Newminster Children's Centre it is proposed to introduce a zebra crossing in Middleton Road as shown on the plan overleaf. This will reduce the risk of personal injury and provide a safer crossing facility for pedestrians. To safely introduce the crossing, certain alterations to the road layout in the vicinity will be required. These include new central islands on the existing speed table and the relocation of existing lamp column. This will ensure that suitable visibility is provided for pedestrians and approaching vehicles.
What happens next
A notice of our intention to introduce the crossing will be published in the local newspaper and posted on lamp columns in the vicinity. Any comments in regards to the proposals described in this Notice must be made via email to trafficandhighways@merton.gov.uk or in writing to Head of Traffic and Highways, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey, SM4 5DX
Representations must reach the Council by no later than 27 February 2017 quoting reference Middleton Road Zebra. Objections must relate only to the elements of the scheme that are subject to this statutory consultation.
