Introduction

To address speeding concerns, we are seeking to introduce speed humps which will assist in lowering traffic speeds along St James Road and Framfield Road.

The benefits of speed humps include improved road safety:

  • Reduction of traffic speed
  • Reduced risk of collisions
  • discourage through traffic 
  • improved perception and road environment

Statutory consultation, August-September 2023

The statutory consultation for the introduction of the proposed traffic calming will be carried out between 31 August and 22 September 2023.

A notice of our intention to introduce the above measures will be published in a local newspaper (Wimbledon and Wandsworth Times) and the London Gazette and posted on lamp columns within the vicinity. Representations against the proposals described in this notice must be made in writing to: Environment, Civic and Climate Department, Future Merton, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey, SM4 5DX or email trafficandhighways@merton.gov.uk by no later than 22 September 2023 quoting reference ES/RH/StJames 2023 for St James Rd and ES/RH/Framfield 2023 for Framfield Rd. Objections must relate only to the elements of the scheme that are subject to this statutory consultation.

What happens next

All representations along with officers’ comments and recommendations will be presented in a report to the Cabinet Member for Transport. Please note that responses to any representations received will not be made until after the Cabinet Member has made a final decision.

Once a decision has been made, all the residents will be advised of the outcome of the consultation vi a newsletter.
