To improve pedestrian safety and accessibility, the Council will be carrying out works at the junction of Madeira Rd and Commonside West.
It is therefore planned to introduce a staggered pedestrian/cycle crossings phase in Madeira Rd at its junction with Commonside West, to be incorporated into the existing traffic signals, which will all be upgraded. This will involve a new island with adjacent kerb and footway works to accommodate cycle use with lanes alterations and a new carriageway surface at the head of the junction.
What happens next
The works will be carried out between 2 - 30 April 2024, weather permitting, and every effort will be made to reduce this time frame. Notice boards will be placed at this location in advance of the works, advising all road users of these specific dates.
A temporary road closure will be in place in Madeira Rd for the highway improvements, which will take approximately 2 weeks. A single evening closure will also be required for the final carriageway re-surfacing. Access to properties will be maintained at all times.
