Following the Street Management Advisory Committee (SMAC) meeting in September 2013, the Cabinet Member approved the implementation of the Burghley Road area traffic calming scheme.

Update – 16 May 2013

Following the Street Management Advisory Committee (SMAC) meeting in September 2012, the Cabinet Member approved a statutory consultation to be carried out on the Burghley Road area traffic calming scheme.
The proposals include:

  • Raised speed tables, raised junctions and sinusoidal road humps
  • Priority traffic flow system
  • Footway build out
  • Removal, relocation and creation of parking bays
  • Modifications at the junction of Burghley Road/St Mary's Road/Church Road.

What happens next

Any representation against the proposed measures must be done in writing to the Environment and Regeneration Department, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey, SM4 5DX or email trafficandhighways@merton.gov.uk by no later than 14 June 2013, quoting reference ES/SGE. Objections must relate only to the elements of the scheme that are subject to this statutory consultation.
The content of your representation to the various element of the proposals will determine if any element of the scheme will be withdrawn or proceed to the implementation stage and not necessarily the number of responses received. Your views will be considered proportionately depending on issues such as how likely you will be affected by any of the proposals.

All representations along with Officers' comments and recommendations will be reported to the local Ward Councillors, SMAC and the Cabinet Member for Environmental Sustainability and Regeneration on 18 September 2013 for a decision on whether to proceed and implement the measures. Please note that responses to any representations received will not be made until a final decision is made by the Cabinet Member.

A copy of the proposed TMO/Notices, plan identifying the area affected by the proposals and the Council's 'Statement of Reasons' for the proposals can be inspected by prior appointment at Merton Link, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey during the Council's working hours, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm. The documents can also be inspected at Wimbledon Library.

Update – 11 June 2012

Following the Street Management Advisory Meeting in June 2011, the Cabinet Member met with local ward member to develop and agree on proposals to meet the objectives of reducing excessive traffic speeds in Burghley Road and also address the safety concerns of residents at the junction of Burghley Road/St Mary's Road/Church Road.
The proposals include raised speed tables, priority traffic flow system, footway build out, relocation of parking bays and modifications at the junction of Burghley Road/St Mary's Road/Church Road.
