The Kerbcraft road safety scheme teaches pedestrian safety skills to five to seven year olds through roadside training, and is available to children in Merton's schools.
It builds on the skills children learned at home and develops their decision-making skills, including:
- choosing safe places and routes
- crossing safely at parked cars
- crossing safely near junctions
Our trainers are all DBS checked volunteers. They teach children in groups of two or three per trainer, usually over four sessions once a week. After the training, our volunteers encourage the children to cross the road with an adult.
Please contact us to arrange training in your school.
Volunteer as a trainer
We regularly recruit parent volunteers to help deliver the Kerbcraft training programme.
An hour a week is usually sufficient. This is a useful skill to acquire, and many volunteers go on to work in the teaching or childcare sector.
Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering.
