If you have a physical disability, there is equipment we can supply and adaptations we can carry out to your home to help you stay independent in your everyday life.
Equipment and minor adaptations
Following an assessment by an occupational therapist (OT), we may be able to supply you with equipment and adjust your home up to a cost of £1,000. This could include:
- toileting equipment, such as a raised toilet seat or commode
- bathing equipment, such as a bath board or shower chair
- grab rails
- door widening
- equipment to help sensory impaired people
If you cannot get in or out of the bath safely, for example, we may provide basic equipment, such as a bath board and seat, which could help you regain your independence.
There is often no need for complex, lengthy, and disruptive alterations such as the installation of a shower.
There is no charge for residents for minor adaptations or simple pieces of equipment.
Major adaptations
People with more complex needs may benefit from further alterations to their home. If the OT recommends more major works, funding might be available through the Disabled Facilities Grants process (DFG). This includes a financial assessment to calculate any contributions you may have to make towards the cost of any work.
