Tree planting in 2024/25
500 new trees
This year, we’re doubling our tree planting from 250 to 500 new trees across the borough. Trees will be planted during the autumn and winter.
This is part of our plan to fill vacant tree pits and to offset tree loss due to age and disease. The increased canopy cover will enhance biodiversity, reduce heat stress and create habitats for wildlife.
Tree planting at Harris Academy
We are planting 100 trees in Abbey Ward in collaboration with Harris Academy Wimbledon, to replace those previously removed on site due to development. The project, which started the week of 14 October 2024, includes planting a mix of species like apple and cherry trees to boost biodiversity and habitat space.
This includes:
- Nelson Gardens (Abbey Ward): 18 trees, 80-100 meters of hedging
- Abbey Recreation Ground (Abbey Ward): 18 new trees
- Nursery Road Playing Fields (Abbey Ward): 24 new trees, 100 meters of hedging
- Abbey Road Conservation Area (Abbey Ward): 36 new trees
