About Merton Tree Wardens

Tree Wardens Group Merton is a voluntary organisation that funds and carries out planting and maintenance of trees, woodland and hedges in the borough's parks and open spaces, involving and supporting friends' groups and residents' associations.

The national Tree Wardens scheme is operated by The Tree Council and helps people to play an active role in conserving and enhancing their local trees and woods.

Entry criteria

A tree can be nominated for its size, form, species, wildlife value, historical and cultural value or its contribution to the townscape.

  • Townscape value: your nomination can be a specimen tree or a group in a public place, which because of its position is visually important to the townscape.
  • Historical and cultural value: does your tree have importance either in relation to Merton or yourself?

    Bracket fungi

    Bat roost
Epiphytes (non-parasitic plants growing on the tree, e.g. moss)
