The MMR vaccine is a safe and effective combined vaccine, that protects against three serious illnesses, measles, mumps and rubella. 2 doses of the MMR vaccine provide the best protection.
Getting vaccinated is important, as these conditions can also lead to serious problems including meningitis, hearing loss and problems during pregnancy.

Measles cases are rising at the moment in London and urgent action is needed to make sure that your child is protected from becoming seriously unwell.
Please make sure your child is up to date with their vaccinations. If you are not sure you can check the red book and make an appointment with your GP surgery to get those vaccinations done.
Two doses of the MMR vaccine is needed to give your child lifelong protection from Measles. This is normally given around the child's first birthday and then the second dose is given around three years old. But it's never too late to catch up on these vaccinations.
If you do have any questions about the vaccinations or you're not sure whether you've missed any doses then please do ask your practice nurse at your local GP surgery, then you can make an appointment for any missed doses that your child might have.
What to do if you or your child have missed any MMR vaccinations
If you or your child have missed any MMR vaccinations, or you are unsure if you or your child is up to date you can:
- Contact your GP practice.
- Check your children’s red books to see if they are up to date with their MMR vaccinations.
