From 1 August 2012 the complaints process for maintained schools changed.  The first stage has not changed and complaints will still go directly to schools for you to try and resolve.  Where complaints are not resolved by the school, the next stage is for the complaint to go to the Secretary of State for Education.  Further details and copies of the revised complaints procedure are on the Merton website

The council and the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) will continue to accept complaints directly from young people and their parents or carers about: 

  • school transport services
  • special educational needs 
  • school admissions
  • permanent exclusions from a school 
  • children who are out of school
