The Tenants’ Champion may be able to help you if:
- you live in a rented home in Merton
- repairs are needed to your home, or to a communal area
- your landlord hasn’t made the necessary repairs
Your landlord can be a private landlord or a housing association.
The Tenants’ Champion is Councillor James Williscroft
How the Tenants’ Champion can help
The Tenants’ Champion can contact your landlord and investigate the issue on your behalf. They can also help you to organise a group with a spokesperson, if other tenants are affected.
Before you contact the Tenants’ Champion
1. Tell your landlord about the problem
If you rent from a housing association such as Clarion, follow their system for reporting repairs.
If the repair is your responsibility, your landlord will tell you.
If you have problems contacting your landlord, the Tenants’ Champion can help you to contact them.
2. Write a formal complaint to your landlord
If the problem is your landlord's responsibility, and they haven't fixed it in a reasonable amount of time, make a formal complaint to them in writing.
If you rent from a housing association such as Clarion, follow their official complaints process.
