To vote in any election in Merton you must be:

• registered to vote 
• 18 or over on the day of the election 
• not legally excluded from voting 

General elections

You must be:

• a British, Irish or qualifying Commonwealth citizen
• resident at an address in Merton (or a British citizen living abroad who has been registered to vote in Merton in the last 15 years) 

Local elections (including ward by-elections)

You must be:

• a British, Irish, qualifying Commonwealth or EU citizen
• registered at an address in Merton 

If you live in two different local authority areas (for example because you're a student), you can vote in both places in local elections, provided you are registered to vote in both areas.

Mayor of London and London Assembly elections

You must be:

• a British, Irish, qualifying Commonwealth or EU citizen
• resident at an address in Merton
