Extension of Waitrose car park operational hours

Merton Council will be undertaking a statutory consultation to extend the Waitrose Car park operational hours and tariff. This is due to issues such as all day commuter parking and the effect it has on local businesses.

The main function of the car park is to facilitate short term parking. This is defined as "those users of the car park visiting the store or Merton town centre for shopping there and parking light private motor vehicles within the car park for 2 hours or less per each visit to the car park with no return for at least 2 hours since their last visit to the car park".

The current parking practice of up to 5hours is too long for facilitating short term parking as it allows for commuters parking.

The Council is proposing; 30p up to 1 hour 60p up to 2 hours £1.50 up to 3 hours Monday to Sunday 0800 to 18.00 and all bank Holidays with the exception of Christmas day and Boxing Day.

During the consultation period, the Council will not be issuing season parking tickets. Tickets will be issued for quarterly duration until the outcome of the consultation is determined. Closer to the expiry of parking ticket each reminder letter will be sent advising you to renew for the duration of three months.
