Any person wishing to undertake a charity street collection must have a permit granted by the Metropolitan Police before they undertake any collection activity.

The application process must be started approximately two months before the intended date of the collection, as the required application form must be with the Police on the first day of the month before the month in which the collection is to take place, e.g. any collections in April would require the completed application to be submitted by 1st March.

A letter of sponsorship from the London Borough of Merton must accompany the application for a licence. The letter can be requested by writing to us at the address at the bottom of the page stating the intended day , time and location of the proposed collection as well as the aims of the charity.
